IDOC taking steps to curb sex assaults in prison

The Indiana Department of Correction takes seriously its commitment to prevent sexual assault inside our facilities, despite what recent news coverage and opinion articles may suggest. At issue is not the state's commitment toward the elimination of such assaults, but the standards set forth by the federal government in the Prison Rape Elimination Act to reach that end.

"Despite PREA's good intentions, the law's standards and the timeline set for full compliance recently adopted by the Department of Justice cannot be met," explained Gov. Mike Pence in his letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.
